Hi, to start the ball rolling, these are my findings :

1. Airtickets :
Cheapest airline to Canada is Emirates, but there will be a relatively long stop over in Dubai (or somewhere in middle east)

2. Winter clothing :
Lowest temp in Nov is almost minus 40 ... cheaper to buy winter clothing in Canada than in Singapore

3. Off campus lodging:
Sandy Hill area jhas the shortest walking distant to U of Ottawa. About 5 - 15 mins. But no buses available.  Not sure if it's a good / safe area to be in. Need to explore more. Or if there is other suggestion on lodging, it's most welcome.

4. Banking - CIBC. Canada bank - with branch in Singapore. May be good to open an account here, for your expenses in Canada.
